Overview

The American Wind Wildlife Institute (AWWI) seeks a coordinator for AWWI’s American Wind Wildlife Information Center (AWWIC) project. The AWWIC is a database that collects and securely houses wind-wildlife data from wind projects across the U.S. and makes the data available for scientific analysis. The analysis of data contained in AWWIC represents the most substantive, near-term opportunity to deliver game-changing information on wind-wildlife interactions.

This position will report to AWWI’s Program Manager and be supported by the Director of Research and Evaluation.

AWWI works closely with more than 30 industry and conservation partners, friends, and advisors to build scientific research, strategies and tools, and best practices for environmentally responsible wind farm siting and operations. Carrying out AWWI’s mission requires dedication to sound science and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

The AWWIC Project Coordinator’s primary day-to-day responsibilities for coordinating and managing AWWIC include, but are not limited to the following:
  •        Manage ongoing and future data contributions to AWWIC; conduct data QA/QC and work with data submitters to prepare complete datasets for upload into AWWIC
  •        Maintain and update content of AWWIC Documents Database and other database user portals; respond to user inquiries as needed
  •        Understand and develop templates for data collection that are in-line with the most up-to-date field techniques and research
  •        QA/QC wind-wildlife data collected from public sources for inclusion in AWWIC
  •        Data aggregation and analysis for use in scientific presentations and papers
  •        Collaborate with contracted computer programmers on database development and maintenance
  •        Support preparation of outreach materials on AWWIC, such as talking points, fact sheets, presentations, maps, and diagrams
  •        Participate in regular staff calls and meetings
  •        Lead AWWIC working groups
  •        Additional tasks as assigned and as time permits

Qualifications.  We are seeking applicants with the following qualifications:
  • M.S. in Ecology, Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science or a related field or equivalent work experience
  • Strong data manipulation, management, and QA/QC skills; working knowledge of PostgreSQL, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Access
  •  Strong organizational skills, project management skills, and attention to detail
  •  Good writing and oral communication skills
  •  Specific knowledge and experience in wind energy and/or avian and bat biology is strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS; statistical programs such as R, Stata, SAS, or SPSS; and HTML or PHP is not required, but considered a plus
  • Desire to work in a collaborative environment to achieve goals of a diverse stakeholder community

Location, Compensation, and Benefits
The location of the position will be in Washington, D.C. or Burlington, VT. Compensation is commensurate with experience and skills. AWWI offers a generous, comprehensive benefits package.
