Position Information

Arlington County’s Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking a Natural Resource Specialist to be responsible for overall leadership, management and supervision of Arlington County’s parks and natural settings. The Natural Resource Specialist, works in collaboration with other DPR units as well as citizen groups, advisory commission and other public and private stakeholders to plan and implement invasive plant and other non-native invasive management throughout Arlington County. This position also plans and implements natural resources field work, habitat restoration, and native plant propagation activities.

Specific duties include:
  • Planning and coordinating the long-range invasive species plan for Arlington County, including prioritizing treatment locations, providing recommendations on planning documents, developing Early Detection Rapid Response Program, and coordinating integrated pest management methods;
  • Supervising full-time staff, contractors, and volunteers;
  • Managing the Unit’s budget of $120,000+, in addition to other project budgets;
  • Managing native plant nursery operations, habitat restorations, and natural resources field work; and
  • Serving as a subject matter expert on the identification and management of invasive plant species of the Mid-Atlantic region.
