Title:  Extension Program Assistant
Functional Title:  Extension Program Assistant (Watershed Stewards)

Location: UME - Howard County Extension Office, 3330 North Ridge Road, Suite 240, Ellicott City, Maryland

Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Watershed Stewards Academy Coordinator is responsible for supporting the volunteer advisory committee, in-training and graduate Stewards, and partners including funding sources. The WSA Coordinator maintains internal and external partnerships to promote and expand the Academy with the goal of positively changing attitudes regarding ground water issues.

Responsibilities:
  •          Recruit participants into the WSA program. Setup and staff WSA table at events, marketing through various mechanisms (promotional items, newsletter, and social media).
  •         Review applications and interview Steward Candidates.
  •         Manage the 14-week training program for Stewards, including annual update of curriculum, securing and managing guest speakers, coordinating logistics for field trips, responding to Steward questions and concerns and providing guidance to ensure a positive experience, and responding to and managing the WSA Advisory Committee.
  •         Coordinate implementation of the annual class project and providing guidance and assistance to Stewards as they complete their Action Projects.
  •         Seek funding for the program, establishing partnerships and adaptively managing the program for increasing accomplishments with each successive year.
  •         Develop end of grant final reports as required.
  •         Maintain active relationship with funder(s) including regular updates, attending funder(s) meetings, etc.
  •         Coordinate with Educator to report results and impact statements in UMERS.
  •         Will recruit Advisory Committee members and work with them to support the Committee by preparing meeting announcements, agendas, background material, minutes, monthly program and financial reports, and produce an annual report
Qualifications:     

Required
  • High School Diploma or GED AND Five years’ experience performing a variety of duties in support of the teaching, demonstration, and advising work of Extension agents or in community outreach, health care, research, or social services programs.
  • If offered employment by UME, individual will be required before beginning work to obtain a background check by the State of Maryland and FBI.
Preferences         
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two (2) years working directly with watershed related issues.
Additional Certifications:  
  •         Completion certificate from a Watershed Stewards Academy.
  •         Valid Driver’s License.

Salary & Benefits:
Salary commensurate with experience, with Hiring Range Minimum: $32,268. This is a contractual position, renewable pending performance and funding.
