Maryland Geological Survey

The Maryland Geological Survey is searching for a candidate who will study the groundwater resources of Maryland. We are looking for an early career candidate who has either at least one year of experience performing hydrogeological studies or a master's degree in hydrology. The Maryland Geological Survey is a State government organization of 17 scientific staff and 2 support staff. We have a great diversity of projects from ocean sand resources mapping to traditional geologic mapping to mineral mapping, and of course, for this position groundwater quantity and quality mapping and analysis.

The main purpose of this position is to assist in hydrogeological and hydrological studies of the groundwater and surface-water resources of the State. Duties will include field and office work, and may include but are not limited to measuring water levels in wells, monitoring test drilling, collecting and describing drill cuttings and cores, conducting and analyzing aquifer tests, inventorying wells, collecting water samples, analyzing water-quality, water-level, and other hydrogeological data, working with GIS applications, digitizing and scanning data, compiling tables and plots of groundwater levels and water quality, and assisting in the production of reports, pamphlets, and brochures for both technical and non-technical audiences. The position involves interacting with technical professionals at local, state, and federal agencies as well as the public. Field work often requires travel throughout the State and may require the ability to lift heavy equipment (exceeding 50 pounds).
