The Government Relations Associate will serve an important function on the U.S. Policy and Advocacy team, supporting the development of policy positions and advocacy execution for Breakthrough Energy before federal and state governments. The US Environmental Protection Agency with the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) has a job opening on the team. The DWSRF is a federal-state partnership funding drinking water infrastructure and technical assistance needed to ensure safe drinking water across America. The program helps local communities accomplish the critical public health and environmental goals; it is the second-largest program at the EPA and thus has high visibility.

The job opening is with the team who implements the DWSRF American Iron and Steel (AIS) Program provision. In short, all communities receiving DWSRF funding must use American-made iron and steel products in their projects. The participant will be trained to 1) participate in the development of informational products that assist Regions, states, and other stakeholders such as training materials, web casts, conference calls, fact sheets, AIS website, and other written communications, 2) conduct on-site engineering reviews and application of drinking water system infrastructure design and construction to comply with the nations drinking water standards addressing AIS elements, 3) conduct research on national AIS product use and practices, 4) contribute to the review of AIS waiver requests and participate in the response process, and 5) provide support for the evaluation of issues related to technical aspects of AIS products. The person will get to travel to project construction sites across the country.

BASIC SUMMARY

Defenders of Wildlife, a national, nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to the protection of native animals and plants in their natural communities, is recruiting for a Conservation Policy Intern. This position will help conduct policy research and analysis to further our strategic habitat and species conservation goals on public lands. The intern/extern will join our Federal Lands team within the Landscape Conservation department, working to defend, improve and implement federal law,

regulation and policy to protect and restore wildlife and ecological integrity on public lands across the country.

 

The internship is designed to provide a wide range of administrative and programmatic experience with conservation issues of national significance. The intern can expect to work on a variety of public lands related issues, including endangered species conservation, public lands management, and defense against damaging resource extraction and commercial use of wildlife habitats. They will learn how science, law and policy are employed to protect, strengthen and expand public lands conservation.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Research, analyze and summarize conservation information, including administrative initiatives, draft regulation, proposed legislation and federal projects affecting public lands.
