Coordinator of Wildlife Management

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Maintain existing long-term wildlife monitoring programs at the zoo’s Nature Boardwalk and develop new on-grounds research (design, collect data, analyze data, prepare summary reports or manuscripts as applicable);
  • Work in close collaboration with other zoo departments/science centers (i.e., Davee Center for Epidemiology and Endocrinology, Animal Care, and Horticulture) to manage wildlife on zoo grounds and mitigate wildlife conflicts;
  • Maintain permits necessary for conducting research and management on zoo-grounds;
  • Foster an appreciation of urban nature and effectively communicate UWI’s research and messaging through informal and formal interactions with people of diverse backgrounds (e.g., tours and presentations to donors, zoo visitors, camp groups, and students);
  • Mentor college-level interns and teens in field research techniques and development of short-term, zoo-based research projects;
  • Collaborate with the zoo’s Learning Department by providing relevant expertise to education programs; mentor participating teens in field research techniques and study design;
  • Support the Urban Wildlife Institute by assisting with administrative duties (i.e., booking travel, tracking purchases, managing vehicles).
